- Protects against hidden defects in vehicles.
Lemon Law (La. R.S. 51:1941 et seq)
- Applies to new vehicles under warranty.
Louisiana Credit Law (LA R.S. 9:3510 et seq)
- Protects buyers from unfair lending practices.
- Requires full disclosure of finance charges and terms.
Data Breach Notification (LA R.S. 51:3071 et seq)
- Businesses must inform consumers of personal data breaches.
LMVC Regulations (LA R.S. 32:1251 seq and Title 6. Banks and Banking Chapter 10-B. Louisiana Motor Vehicle Sales Finance Act)
- Dealers, Lenders, Brokers, Lessors, Manufacturers, Converters, Vehicle Protection Product Warrantors, Debt Waiver and Debt Forgiveness Administrators must follow specific laws and rules.
- Consumers can file complaints with LMVC. The LMVC is NOT the DMV.
