File a Complaint
Consumers - File a Complaint
The Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission (LMVC) responds to all complaints. Once the complaint is received, a staff member will reach out to the complainant to verify the information and discuss the complaint. When it is determined the complaint may fall under LMVC’s jurisdiction, an investigator is assigned to the case. For issues outside the LMVC jurisdiction, we will do our best to direct you to the proper agency; however, we do not provide legal advice to resolve complaints.
The most common complaints received by the LMVC from consumers are the following:
- Title and Registration Issues
- Mechanical issues that occur after the sale
- Overcharging of state official fees and sale tax
- Out of Business dealers, manufacturers, lenders, etc.
- Misleading Advertising
The Louisiana Motor Vehicle Commission CANNOT:
- Provide legal advice
- Investigate complaints against private parties
- Require a dealer to take back a vehicle after a contract is signed
- Assist with resolving contract terms between the buyer and dealer
